The big mistake that new agents make is thinking that real estate is easy money. Yet nothing could be further from the truth.
This job is as hard as it gets.
The competition is cutthroat, you don’t get paid until after months of work, and your clients can go temporarily insane due to the stress of the process.
And that’s on a good day.
But, it doesn’t have to be this way. If I perfectly described your work life, then this story is for you.
Several years ago, on a holiday weekend, I received a last-minute call from a new client who wanted to buy their first home. And, they had to do it that weekend because of their current housing situation.
The problem was that I already had plans with my family. I also felt sorry for this person who was stuck between a rock and a hard place. So, I carved out half of my weekend to show them properties and we found one to purchase.
The home was well priced, in a popular area, and had many showings. I knew that it would not last long. The parents decide that they want to see the property late on Sunday afternoon.
The parents agreed that it was a good deal but refused to allow their adult-child to sign a buyer’s agreement with me.
An agreement is the only way that I could guarantee that I would get paid. Seeing that I just wasted a holiday for nothing, I told them to find someone else to write the offer and started walking out the door.
That immediately changed their mind, but I was still mad as fire. I vowed never to be in that position again.
I only wanted to work with people who valued me as an agent.
Instead of prospects, I wanted a group of raving fans who shouted my name from the mountaintop. At the same time, repelled anyone who doesn’t appreciate my time and world-class service.
That journey led me to the marketing system I share with you in my book, Kill Cold Calls.
It works so well, we rarely go on listing presentations because our prospects already know that they want to work with us.
Here’s what one of my raving fans recently said about me on a Facebook review, “Steve Jolly has helped me purchase two houses, and sell one house. He is efficient and very helpful throughout the entire process. I highly recommend him.”
