Dan Kennedy, one of the greatest marketers of our time, tells this story.
Dan hates being interrupted. On this day, he was working inside his Phoenix home during the dog days of summer.
Suddenly, he hears someone banging on the door. Assuming this is a salesperson, Dan decides to ignore them.
Who wants to be annoyed while they are working?
The person at the door doesn’t give up. He continues to knock and Dan continues to ignore him.
He thinks that this must be the most annoying person in the world.
Then this happens.
The guy at the door, jumps his back fence and starts pounding on the back door.
He wants to ignore him, but the guy at the back door can see him standing in the kitchen.
Dan slides the door open and yells, ‘What in hell do you want?”
The guy says, “Your entire backyard in on fire. Call 911 and I’ll grab the hose.”
As Dan puts it, “This guy instantly went from being the most annoying pest to being a welcome guest.”
So what does this story have to do with you?
The truth is that most of the marketing that I see in Real Estate is what I call annoyance marketing.
If you don’t have permission to market, odds are that you are annoying the hell our of your prospects and clients.
Like Dan Kennedy, I hate to be interrupted while working or enjoying my free time. And that’s why I set out to learn how to use permission based marketing to grow my real estate business.
I studied the best marketers in the world outside of the real estate niche (people like Dan Kennedy, Ben Settle, Seth Godin, Gary Vaynerchuk and many, many more). And I took what I learned and applied it to the business of real estate.
On November 4, 2015, I started focusing on entertaining and providing value and here is the result.
This system has helped me consistently get more sales out of my database and completely replace an REO business that dried up in the Nashville seller’s market.
It worked so well during the first year, I set out to write a book to document what I was doing.
And I decided to share it with you, so people no longer give your marketing the side-eye.
