I remember this like it was yesterday.
I was about 4 and we took our summer vacation to Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio. Cedar Point is located on Lake Erie and was the closest amusement park to my hometown, Detroit.
My favorite part of the whole trip was the slide into the deep end of our motel pool. I’d go down it over and over for hours at a time. Which was totally cool, except I expected my Dad to be there waiting for me at the bottom of the slide.
He tried to convince me that I already knew how to swim and that I just needed to try.
But I was afraid to fail.
My Dad, not so much.
After a few minutes of doing things my way, he suddenly got butterfingers. I went straight to the bottom. I didn’t have time to be scared and besides, I was furious.
I swam to the side, climbed the ladder and started yelling at my Dad.
He stopped me mid-tantrum and said, “I told you that you could swim.”
Later, he reminded me that it’s ok to fail. And that failing doesn’t make you a failure. He said, “Failure only happens when you quit.”
I was reminded of this story when I was listening to John Carlton and Kevin Rogers podcast, Psyche Insights for Modern Marketers. John is an A-list copywriter and epic storyteller.
John said one of the keys to being interesting was being “fearless about failure.”
He went on to say how the best lessons he learned came out of the disappointments. And it’s during those times when you grow.
Two years ago, when I was developing the marketing system that I use now, I was reminded of those fears of failure.
Again, I had a choice.
I could take the easy route and cling to my old ways.
Or, I could try to swim on my own.
It was the best decision I’ve made in a long time.
Now, I want to give you the same choice. And I’ve made it even easier for you.
Instead of developing your own marketing system. I’m giving you the keys to mine.
I spill all my secrets to my proven lead conversion system in my book, Kill Cold Calls.
Best-Selling Author and Self-Publishing Consultant Dr. Gary Webb said, “It is an awesome book that does a much better job explaining how to write great emails/newsletters than anything you are likely to find with 500 pages of filler. Steve cuts to the chase and gets his message across powerfully.”
